Topic: WASTE (10/11/18)
I paced the dark living room in the middle of the night, stewing about needing to pay to repair and prevent more flood damage to our basement. I was thankful we had enough money in savings but stressed over spending it, on tearing up work already done on the house that I loved — making it look worse instead of better. As I wordlessly cried to God about this wasted money, I sensed Him reminding me of the assignment He gave when we moved into the house.

This is not your house, but Mine. I want You to live in it and welcome and bless in My Name whoever I bring to the door.

What did that have to do with this unbudgeted expense?

I want you to bless whoever I bring to you.

But how do I bless workmen when I’m told I shouldn’t be at home while they are working because of the jackhammering, removal of stairs, and the cold of doors and windows open to the winter weather? Lord, this is crazy?

Bless them.

I couldn’t think of how — other than leaving cookies and a large thermos of hot chocolate for the workmen as we trundled off to spend two days at a friend’s house.

When the job was done, I reluctantly wrote the large check, sighing over the lost money and my poor job of blessing. I gave the check to the foreman of the job and was struck dumb by his parting words. “Thank you. Having this job was a blessing. It’s hard for us to find work in the winter.”

My idea of waste was God’s idea for blessing.

Thanks for sharing from your life and from your heart. We often forget that God doesn't see things as we do. What a sweet reminder that we can be a blessing even when things are not going so well. Good message.

Wow. The Lord is always 1000 steps ahead of us, isn't He? And here we are worried about so many things when He's already got it all figured out Thanks for sharing this reminder of His Sovereignty. It is encouraging.

Well done. A great reminder of God's largesse when He asks us to join Him in His work. More than we ask or can imagine.
