I got to thinking of Biblical dreams and prophecies and how sometimes they were intertwined. Take David’s dreams which angered his brothers when he recounted them but how their words were sorry reminders when their truth was recognised many years later.
Daniel was a famous interpreter of dreams, all of which were verified in due course, and which turned king Nebuchadnezzar into a believer of some, if not all, of the attributes of Yahweh.
Many of the prophets were granted dreams and visions from the Lord as He planned and executed His Will. As I think back to the stories of the Old and New Testaments I am reminded that El Roi, the God who sees me, knows us so well that He is aware of where we are, when we sit or lie down, even what are our thoughts, hopes and even our own dreams!.
I have a dream that is more of a prayer in abeyance; waiting for the answer and relying on passages that tell me:- “whatever you ask in My Name;” “according to My Will,” and with the thought that “It is not My Will that any should be lost.”
I am kept buoyant in hope and faith that my prodigal son will recognise the love of his Heavenly Father and return to Him. An extra dream would be that I would know about it, and even see him again in this life, for he has wandered far out of sight and sound.
This is the sort of experience that teaches me more about the Father heart of my God. His family gives Him the same sort of problem. Being born into eternal life by a confession of belief does not always guarantee a safe walk on the path He lays out for us.
Sometimes the guidance of the Holy Spirit is not recognised or understood and self-will leads astray. He calls, and waits for us to hear and respond. Our names are carved on the palms of His hands.
My son has had a Jonah-like experience, miraculously saved from the sea, maybe even now he is reliant on hand-outs but in my dream El Roi calls my son back into the sheepfold, where the Shepherd will lead him back to the Living Water he needs.

I would suggested focusing more on your son's story, even if you have to fictionalize it some. Give us some dialogue. How and when did you know he was slipping away? What was his Jonah experience, and how did you find out about it? Focus on that, and then focus less on the more devotional parts of this. In the middle, bring your readers further in with the devotional aspect, then go back to your son's story, and at the very end, leave the reader with a really good "nugget" of truth.
Good job with this. You made me want to know more about your son's story.
