Her neighbor Mrs. Chillingworth’s pristine kitchen was in shambles. The contents from drawers and cabinets were dumped everywhere, the trash strewn around. It looked like a food fight gone bad. Oddly enough none of the other rooms Dani had walked through had been touched.
Dani pulled out her cellphone and dialed “911”.
“Operator, there’s been a break-in at 531 Chinchilla Drive.”
“Was anyone injured,” he asked.
“Fortunately, nobody was at home at the time, but it feels ‘crepe’ here. I would feel better if you dispatched someone here now. I don’t know what I’m going to tell my neighbor when she calls. I’m watching her house while she’s gone.”
Everybody in the small town of Maplesville knew that Mrs. Chillingworth hid her prized Chilled Raspberry Chocolate Trifle recipe somewhere in this room. It was also well-know that she was likely to win the $250.00 cash prize offered by the area churches outreach committee for the best dessert. But the question in Dani’s mind remained,Who would do something like this?
Dani was glad that the police wasted no time in getting to the house; she didn’t want this to turn into a cold case.
The black-and-white pulled up and two officers jumped out.
“Are you the lady who called 911?”
“Yes, I am.” “My name is Dani Cool.”
“I’m Officer Franklin, and this is Sergeant Windham. We’ll just take a look around before we go.”
A loud thud sent the officers running toward the noise,coming from the back kitchen porch.
“Freeze! Come out with your hands up,” Sergeant Windham said.
Out from a box behind the kitchen door came a cat and her kittens. It is a well-known fact that some kittens wait a lifetime for a ‘mewment’ like this.”
“Well,” said Officer Franklin, “It seems we have a cat burglary here.”
Chili barked and then licked Dani’s hand to let her know that she had things under control.
“I guess I better clean up this mess before Mrs. Chillingworth comes home. I don’t want her to think that I left her with a complete catastrophe on her hands.”
Moral of the Story: Fame is sometimes ‘sleeting’, but His love surpasses any earthly distinction because it never ends.
