I stumble, fumble and grumble my walk,
grieve, bereave and leave old friends.
I pray, I stray and naysay my talk,
Running from a battle that never ends
If I forget Your armor that shields,
or shuck off Your shield, Your armor and sword,
tripping through death, and I too soon yield
the flag of surrender, forgetting Your Word
I negate Your purpose for which I flew
out to the field to fight the foe . . .
Unprepared, unfaithful, rebellious too,
No signpost telling me where not to go
Lost in the melee, with not even You
to console me, to lead me by Your outstretched Hand,
Confused, unsettled, unsupported by You
As I make my decision to take my stand
Tears of frustration, a life so ill-planned,
Fear and temptation a fast-setting glue
Keeping my heart from reaching Your Hand
Supporting our enemy who flees from You too.
Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide
No escaping the trap I set for myself,
No way to relieve the burning inside
Too far to run to Your Book on my shelf,
I yield to Your Mercy, Your Grace and Your Power
to stop me from scoring for Satan this war
I repent of my sins, my pride - oh I cower
to see how I've made Our relationship sore.
Do you have extra armor to cover my needs?
To show to our enemy he hasn't yet won
Please clothe me with mercy, my broken heart pleads.
Strengthen me with Your Grace, Your Gift through Your Son.
Thank You, my Father for taking my hand,
Securing my feet on now solid ground
Your Holy Spirit helps me to stand,
marching onward for You - Your Banner held proud.
