“Oh, Mom, don’t worry,” Terra told Celia a couple of years later. Her college choir tour was something she had anticipated for months. She knew her mother was concerned about their lack of sponsors, as well as the inclusion of only two inspirational songs in their presentation. For that reason, Terra had made a special visit home to reassure her she still maintained her values and behavior. Still, she saw concern in her mother’s eyes.
“Oh, Mom, don’t be so unbending,” Terra said to Celia a few days after college graduation. She tried to explain her involvement with Christopher. Her mother was not pleased he had moved into Terra’s apartment. She didn’t seem to understand how handsome Chris was, or how helpful he could be in her quest to go further with her singing. Well, I can’t remain under Mom’s thumb forever, Terra thought. Preparing to return to school, she kissed Celia goodbye, seeing the disapproval as their eyes met.
“Oh, Mom, don’t put a damper on this,” Terra begged, a few years later. She had a recording contract, for goodness sake. It was super news. It would mean lots of money, travel, and fabulous experiences. Be happy for me, Mom, can’t you? I’m even insisting they include a gospel song, Terra struggled with mixed emotions. Still, her mother did not share her excitement nor encourage her. This time Terra turned away, unwilling to meet that penetrating gaze.
“Oh, Mom, don’t fret. I’ll get there right after Christmas,” Terra comforted Celia. She wasn’t able to miss such a huge concert. She had the opening number, and rumors were that a movie producer would be there, looking to fill a singing role in an upcoming film. Feeling guilty, Terra realized she hadn’t been home to Mom’s for almost two years now. She was thankful it was a phone conversation, and she could only visualize the disappointment in Celia’s eyes.
“Oh, Mom,” Terra whispered. She stood in the same little country church where she had sung her songs to the Lord all those years ago. In it, Terra sensed God’s presence as she had then, but in sadness instead of joy. This time there was a flower-covered casket at the front. In it lay her beautiful mother who had died suddenly the week before.
“Oh, Mom... Oh, Mom… Oh, Mom.”
But her mother’s eyes were closed.

Really moving work.
Talk about a rude awakening. The daughter needed it, though, to bring her to her senses.
That's the way it has to happen for us sometimes...
Thank GOD for his love, grace and forgiveness.
