of the demon voice
in her head
screaming
her worthlessness
her need to try
and erase herself
from existence
to slit her wrists and
bleed away
her fifteen years of pain
put her on the list
Next on the list
the young man
who had been celebrating
turning nineteen
may not walk again
his mangled car
like his mangled legs
messaged their amazement
he was even still alive
laying there
far from being
the invincible dude
he thought he was
when the persuasion
of the party group
led him to drink
just a few more
A prostitute
not young – far from old
but old enough
to have known better
than to let the persuasion
of her so called friend
put her on the streets
with fast cash promises
like the lies
and the tricks
devouring her spirit
without doubt
needed to be on the list
as she dealt
with the news
of now having AIDS
A list priority
was the middle aged man
with bullet wound
that barely missed his heart
the gun fired
by his formerly loving wife
that was crying out
WHY - WHY - WHY
he let the persuasion
of lust
and the woman at work
lure him
into the affair
that ended him here
now agonizing in pain
even more
from the result of his actions
than his wound
It seemed important too
for the list
to include
the boy
barely turned thirteen
brought in screaming
everything - everywhere
was bug covered
vile and infested
his mind’s hallucination
thanks to the persuasion
of his brother’s junkie friend
who assured him
drugs
were merely fun
Clutching the list
the Hospital Chaplain
feels weary
even before he begins
another day of witnessing
needless pain and suffering
the burden of his heart
drives him to his knees
seeking
and asking the Holy Spirit
to go before him
convicting and persuading
these so in need
of God’s love and truth
he weeps
list in hand
and prays for wisdom
and words to convince
the sad souls
that God - not the world
holds the answers
then he arises
and takes hold
of his well worn
sword of the spirit
and sets out one more day
with one more list
to combat
sin’s persuasion

It's good to face up to real life issues instead of brushing them under the carpet and acting as if life's good for everybody.
The people you've written about exist all around us and as Christians we should be identifying their needs and doing what we can to help physically, but more importantly to point them in the direction of God.
Excellent job!
Clap! Clap! Clap!
