Urgently needed, “Miss Manners”,
An etiquette book or two,
Updated for this modern age
Where “texts”, “emails” debut.
Electronic devices so common
Surround us wherever we go,
Divided attention is all we receive,
Responding to text's ebb and flow.
A “ten second rule” to read and respond
And no longer rude one will seem,
For interrupted dialogue's
Just part of this day's scene.
There's just one little problem
For some of us, you see,
We can't remember what's been said
Before your...“Excuse me.”
So then we would start over
And once again you text,
And so we while away our time
Wond'ring what you'll say next.
The next time you invite me
To have a cup of tea,
Perhaps a Kindle I will bring
While you AT&T.
I guess I must get used to this,
It's progress, so I'm told,
But conversation I prefer...
The kind from days of old.
But F(or) Y(our) I(nformation),
I've learned a thing or two,
I'll B(e) R(ight) B(ack) with L(ots) O(f) L(uck)
If I remember you.
