Harold the Hurrier rushed out the door
At exactly twelve minutes past eight.
He revved up his Volvo and kicked in the turbo,
Regretting that he had slept late.
Harold was pushing the limits of speed,
But he must get the kids to their school.
The light had turned yellow but this crazy fellow,
Ignored every sensible rule.
Gulping his coffee, he drove with one knee
When his cell phone just started to ring.
He searched through his lunch bag and under the oil rag,
But Harold could not find the thing.
Frantic to locate the missing device,
He bent down to look under the mat.
The car horns were blaring and people were staring,
As Harold swerved this way and that.
Finding the cell phone, just under his seat,
He glanced down at the caller ID.
Why was his wife calling? He found it appalling.
And now it was eight thirty-three!
Gruffly he answered, “Now what do you want?”
When he heard his wife say loud and clear,
“Please look in your rear view – no one sits behind you.”
“You left and the kids are still here!”
Gasping in shock he whipped quickly around,
To see nothing but empty backseat.
Why didn’t he notice, the noise was a lot less.
He let out a cry of defeat.
Calmly his wife said, “Hey, are you still there?”
“There is one other thing I should say.”
“There’s no need to worry; and no need to hurry.”
“Today is a school holiday!”
