As I sat in her rocker close by her bed, I helplessly prayed for a solution. Feeling the Lord's leading, I softly played the recordings of all of the Psalms during the night. The next morning she said she felt as if she'd had a heavenly visitation and such peace.
But the pain continued to increase and she needed help.
“What do you want me to do?” the doctor complained when I spoke with him on the phone. “Open her mouth and dump the pain medication in? There is not one indication of cancer in her body!” (Yet six weeks later my mother was dead.)
Grrr!
I had been doling out her liquid pain medication with such care but her suffering just increased. We had to have help. Shortly after she was admitted to the hospital, we asked for an oncologist to take over her care. It soon became apparent that her quality of life was at issue. This is where hospice shines and I, and my family, will be forever grateful for their compassionate care.
My “Grr” became Grrratitude in their sensitive handling of all my mother's needs. And not only hers, but in meeting those of our family as well. God bless hospice.
