As I was feeling sorry for myself one day, I thought about all the places that I have never traveled to. Places that I would love to experience, if I just had the money. Now being divorced, I even felt worse at the thought of having to save the money to travel. Questions flooded my mind such as: How will I ever be able to save for a trip? Who would I travel with? Where would I travel? I love sightseeing, shopping, and meeting new people and the exhilaration that comes from traveling. I like the pre-trip planning and the post-trip highlights. I love everything about it.
In the meantime, it occurred to me that God has allowed me to travel and sightsee each day. For example, I am able to walk, to see, and to experience many new places and events each God given day. I may not be able to travel by plane or boat to an exotic place, but I can travel each day as I meet new people and experience my life. Wow! What a revelation. I then heard God speak to me as he brought to my mind a verse from Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” I really pondered that verse. Not only does He have a plan for my life, but also there is a prosperous future in store for me filled with hope and promise. That encompasses a lot more than traveling to one exotic place. I then thanked God for the new awareness that I received. I thanked Him for my eyes, for my sight, for the ability to walk, and for my health. I thanked Him in advance for the many blessings that all who believe in Him would receive. I thanked Him for his words that also encouraged me on that one gloomy day: “ No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him." NIV 1 Corinthians 2:9.
In retrospect, I can now see that God was using those verses to remind me of His love and plans for my life, and to encourage me to not lose heart. Since that time, an unexpected trip was presented to me by a friend to travel to Florida. I live in Pennsylvania and this was a nice March excursion as we traveled to Florida. Not only was I was invited; the only thing I had to pay for was airfare. My friend and I stayed in a beautiful condo on the beach that was given to us free! Since then, I now remind myself to keep my sights on Jesus and He will allow me to see, experience and embrace all that I need too. He knows the best sights there are to see, for he is the greatest travel agent of all times.
