KATE: Oh my gosh, look at you, you haven’t changed a bit!
Kate hugs Dani and then Sammie.
DANI: I can’t believe it’s been 25 years.
SAMMIE: It seems like just yesterday -- but I’m glad it wasn’t. (Laughs)
KATE: Can you believe I’m a Grandma?
DANI: You sure don’t look like one, especially in that outfit.
KATE: (Standing proud) I know, I’m actually in the best shape of my life now.
SAMMIE: Good for you.
DANI: And I’m retired. Well, from my first two careers. I’m starting up a third -- as a freelance writer.
SAMMIE: Lucky dog. I’m still working three jobs.
DANI: You always were the over-achiever.
SAMMIE: Ha-ha. Say, speaking of over-achievers, what ever happened to Meg?
KATE: Didn’t you hear?
DANI: It was awful.
SAMMIE: (Looking wary) What?
KATE: (Whispering) She was killed.
DANI: By her husband -- Louie.
SAMMIE: (Puts her hand to her mouth) No... the same Louie?
KATE: Yup. I knew he was no good.
DANI: We all did.
KATE: If only we had known the signs…
DANI: The signs were there…
SAMMIE: Even 20 years ago. (Teary-eyed) But we were so young. How would we have known about stuff like that?
KATE: (Frowning) He sure didn’t like us.
SAMMIE: We were single. He didn’t want her to meet another guy -- a better guy.
DANI: He told her what to wear.
KATE: He told her not to hang out with us anymore -- or her other friends.
SAMMIE: He was way too controlling.
DANI: And too jealous.
KATE: Little by little, he chipped away at her self-esteem. He just beat her down emotionally, till she was too weak to leave, to even think of leaving.
SAMMIE: (Confused) How can that be?
DANI: I don’t know, but the last time I saw her, she just wasn’t herself. It was like she was half dead already.
KATE: And they moved away right after they got married. So he even distanced her from her family.
SAMMIE: (Sounding afraid, hesitant) He beat her?
DANI: (Nodding) I heard she had quite the medical file.
SAMMIE: How could someone not help her?
DANI: I'm sure the doctors asked her about all those ‘accidents.’ She must’ve covered up for him.
KATE: What a scary and sad way to live...
SAMMIE: But Louie must’ve been good to her once in a while, to make up for the abuse?
DANI: Yeah, just nice enough to keep her confused -- and still with him.
KATE: I never knew what she saw in him.
DANI: Me neither. And then one night he just totally lost it... (Shudders)
SAMMIE: But she was so smart.
KATE: And so funny.
DANI: She could’ve really been something; done something with her life…
SAMMIE: When did it happen?
KATE: Like 12 years ago.
SAMMIE: (Surprised) No way.
DANI: So long ago…
SAMMIE: She was so young… Such a waste… (Thoughtful) What happened to him?
KATE: He did time.
DANI: Yeah, but only like seven years or something.
KATE: Didn’t he get out early for ‘good’ behavior?
SAMMIE: (Shocked) No, that’s just too horrible. You mean he could be out there somewhere, ready to marry again?
DANI: (Gulps) Now that’s scary.
KATE: (Shivers) Totally creepy.
SAMMIE: Maybe we could still do something?
KATE: Like what?
SAMMIE: I dunno; something positive, in Meg’s memory, so that something good can come from her too short life.
DANI: Like a scholarship?
KATE: Or… a park?
SAMMIE: Yeah, something like that.
DANI: She studied philosophy in school.
KATE: Maybe a scholarship in her name, for a kid from this hick town who’s going on to Meg’s alma mater?
DANI: And she went to an all girls’ school, so the pool of applicants would be girls -- girls who may need to hear Meg’s story.
SAMMIE: That sounds perfect! I’ll set it up with the bank downtown and put in the first deposit.
DANI: I’ll write up something for the local paper; something that tells about Meg and mentions all the bank details.
KATE: And make sure to list some of the signs of domestic abuse. So maybe someone else will get help before it’s too late.
SAMMIE: Yeah, that way maybe we could help even more people.
DANI: Consider it done.
SAMMIE: God, please bless this endeavor -- in memory of our dear friend Meg.
SAMMIE, DANI, KATE: (Heads bowed) Amen.

Very creative, and I loved how good came from the tragic event in the ind.
