I could walk the way Iím told,
Or I could walk the way I choose.
I could even walk a mile or two
In someone elseís shoes.
But the steps that matter most,
And the ones that Heíll record,
Are my footsteps from His precepts
As Iím walking with the Lord.
To be found within Godís Word
Are examples good and bad
Of those by faith whoíd shown the way
And those who seldom had.
I would not walk like Lotís wife
Who portrayed a grievous fault.
She had looked back when she shouldnít
And became a block of salt.
Nor would I walk like Jonah
Who refused to heed Godís call,
And a whale had him for breakfastó
Hair and whiskers, robe and all.
But Iíd love to walk like Enoch
To have God be pleased with me.
Then he was not, for God took him.
What a grand thing that would be!
Or I would walk like Abraham
Who went forth without knowing
The path he was supposed to take
Or the place that he was going.
The apostles walked with Jesus.
What a joy that must have been!
Sinful men who shared a friendship
With our Lord who knew no sin.
I'll not walk with the wicked,
But Iíll walk in Godís pure light.
Iíll walk humbly in obedience
With His Word to guide aright.
Then I will not fear the darkness
Of this lifeís great final test,
For my Savior will walk with me
Till I enter in His rest.
