CHOICES

I could walk the way I’m told,
Or I could walk the way I choose.
I could even walk a mile or two
In someone else’s shoes.

But the steps that matter most,
And the ones that He’ll record,
Are my footsteps from His precepts
As I’m walking with the Lord.

To be found within God’s Word
Are examples good and bad
Of those by faith who’d shown the way
And those who seldom had.

I would not walk like Lot’s wife
Who portrayed a grievous fault.
She had looked back when she shouldn’t
And became a block of salt.

Nor would I walk like Jonah
Who refused to heed God’s call,
And a whale had him for breakfast—
Hair and whiskers, robe and all.

But I’d love to walk like Enoch
To have God be pleased with me.
Then he was not, for God took him.
What a grand thing that would be!

Or I would walk like Abraham
Who went forth without knowing
The path he was supposed to take
Or the place that he was going.

The apostles walked with Jesus.
What a joy that must have been!
Sinful men who shared a friendship
With our Lord who knew no sin.

I'll not walk with the wicked,
But I’ll walk in God’s pure light.
I’ll walk humbly in obedience
With His Word to guide aright.

Then I will not fear the darkness
Of this life’s great final test,
For my Savior will walk with me
Till I enter in His rest.

This poem is cute. I like the way you used people from the Bible to express both the good choices and bad choices. Good job!

A good poem with a brisk movement in your walk with the Lord. The rhythm and pace took the reader along with it. Very well done.

This is really a good poem. Very true and well written. I just love reading the older challeges. Some of them are sooooo good.
