I felt alone and full of grief
Tears fell as my heart broke
Life was grim and robbed of joy
Hope killed by one last stroke.

Sickness gloated all around me
Loved ones hovered at death’s door
The load grew ever heavier
Could I endure anymore?

But in my tears and wallowing pity
I felt warm arms encompass me
I looked but found no one was near
Yet felt comfort, joy, and peace.

Who was this Presence full of Love?
Who had compassion without end?
I need to know, Who is this Great One
Who’s power allows my heart to mend.

For He took my broken spirit
Glued the pieces together once more
And with His oil of joy and gladness
Made me whole and fully restored.

I have found the One Great Friend
He’ll be yours too, just let Him in
He’ll dry your tears, He’ll take your hand
And guide you to a Promised Land.

For He is Great above all things
This gentle lamb who holds you close
Compassion floods His heart for you
Before creation, you, He chose.

His name is Jesus, The Mighty One
He’s closer than a brother
Immanuel, God here with us
Great King above all others.

Having been on the receiving end of others' prayer when going through tough times, I know what you mean:
"I felt warm arms encompass me....felt comfort, joy, and peace...."

You convey your message with a sense of genuine experience. One suggestion (I make use of when writing poetry): count the syllables and compare from one stanza to the next, so they "match." With more attention to rhythm you will be a first-rate poet!

A beautiful heartfelt poem...and with a little work on your rhythm and rhyme, your words could move the hardest of hearts into finding out more about our One Great Friend. Nicely done.
