Purposefulness is my cloak - reversible
One side a weave of moral fiber’s light
The other dark and in disguise,
Each fastened with the hook I choose
Charging into battle thinking
Right is on my side,
Hiding in cape’s blacker folds
Bent on Sin - yet confident
Tripping through mind fields
So sure I know the way,
Adamant with reason
But spirit-less and limping,
Or, heeding God’s own voice
In that Holy way he has of
Showing us a plan -only
In those baby steps ascending
Stairs of Faith
Wrapped securely
In the good cloak
Marching through, obedient
Making inroads – Oh so blessed
But being human
I get distracted and distressed,
Eyes averted from my Lord I fall and roll,
Reversing to cloak’s dirty side, then striding on
Into a mess, ignoring all storm warnings
Conscious but confused and
Willful by design, the hooded
Cape convinces me I’m covered
Safe and on the path I need
Alone and lost, but blind,
Oblivious I skip and sing and carry
Useless baskets filled with lies
To fling at Truth, hoping for reprieve
But, most naturally, the way is full of traps
I never try to see.
I plummet to the depths, unwell,
Then reach up, yet again,
From relapse to that place of boundless Grace
And shake my double-sided cover, *dancing
As I swirl it round me hugging peaceful joy
Determined in Love’s mission
I push on stronger, praying
That my cloak, like shoes on His bewildered Chosen,
Will not rot, or flip
And make me slip and slide
Down wrong way, dead-end streets, obstinate.
Rather, let me keep on running
Eyes upon the goal
Empowered by strong WILL - God’s, not mine, and
Cushioned by the armor of my resolution Mantle
Until His work on earth is done…
Until the fight is fought,
Until I’ve kept the Faith,
And
Until the race is WON.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
