I lay in bed at night.
Depression comes;
A frequent visitor.

He creeps into my mind.
Ravages my soul.
Leaves me empty.

Empty, except for his lies.

Lies I greedily swallow,
like finely aged wine.
Tears spill in silence.

I beg him to leave; he refuses.

Misery from my past
is summoned.
My being aches.

Depression shares me
with Confusion and Sorrow.
Sadness and Pain follow.

We are nightly companions.

Darkness shrouds me.
I am pulled deeper
into their treachery.

“You are nothing.”
They spew a vile web,
ensnaring me.

“There is no hope”
More lies swirl about
masterfully.

“No one could love you”
I see nothing beyond
the world they’ve created.

Their voices
overwhelm me.
I no longer fight.

I accept them as truth.

Depression returns
to me nightly.
He is a frequent visitor.

I grow weary
and no longer remember
who I once was.

I am void of feelings.

Feelings hurt
too deeply to
express.

I hear a new voice.

It whispers
amongst their
screams.

“You are everything to me.”

What was that?
I thought I heard
kind words.

Those words could
not be spoken
for me?

“I am your hope.”
His voice penetrates
the darkness.

“I love you.”
My soul quivers.
Lord, is that you?

I hear my Savior.

The one who
will not lie
to me.

The one who
will comfort
me.

The one who
will not
deceive.

I have remembered
the true lover of
my soul.

Depression seems to be a common thread in this topic. Such an encoragement that this beast can and is being overcome.

If this is what I contend with in advanced, I am quiting while I am behind. A great peice of work here, such emotion tied up in words.. Good Job..

This is a good job for your first poetry attempt. You drew a great word picture that is clearly understood.

Wonderful! Yes,in our hopeless times we turn to Him and He whispers hope to our souls.
Love your message on hope.

There is a lot of power and emotion in this piece. I think it can minister to others who are fighting the same lying spirits. Hope to see my poetry from you!

Very good. I wouldn't guess it was your first poetry attempt.

I agree, this was fantastic. Very well written, wonderful capturing of some very common thoughts, emotions... lies, and truths. Well done!

Darkness turns to light here! How apt that you set the stage for depression in the context of night ....b/c dawn will surely come. This is our hope!
