A counselor at a middle school orientation compared the teenage years to a roller-coaster ride. Her advice to parents? Don't get on the ride with them. Stay on the sidelines, enthusiastically cheering them on. Wise words indeed.
This life of ours is filled with times of steady ease, times of dips and curves and times of exhilarating highs and frightening lows. Even though we can't experience everything with each other, there is someone who can. I can remind my daughters and myself, that He can ride with us through every tunnel, every fearful pause before a fall, every ear-splitting yell of joy, and every level time of comfort.
We just have to be willing to invite Him along for the ride. He is willing and ready to accept the invitation. In fact, He will never complain of being too dizzy or tired to go again. He has been higher and lower than any of us can even imagine. He has seen the glory of heaven and experienced the depths of hell. He will hold our hand, look into our eyes, and say, "Be anxious for nothing. I will be with you always."
No matter where you are today, at the beginning of this crazy ride or nearing the final ascent, be comforted. Jesus can be your constant, ever-presesnt companion. He has overcome everything for us.
At a recent funeral, these words were found near the phone of the woman who died; "No matter what today brings, Lord, you and I will get through it together."
Raise your arms and experience every bump, every dark place, every mountaintop climb and every heart stopping fall. Don't worry. He will be right there with you, the one who will never leave. He was there in the beginning, He is here now and He will be there at the end of the line. Are you willing to invite Him along? It's quite a ride!
