I rise early and am rewarded with a visual delight.
High in the heavens the navy sky enhances the brilliance of a single star. On the horizon deep purple clouds are edged with a neon orange glow as if hot embers line their bottoms.
The sun prepares for its arrival by washing the sky beneath the clouds with shades of peach, pink and lavender. Then the sun’s breath sets the embers in the clouds on fire blazing the way for its appearance. When the fiery orb finally spills its radiance over the earth, any remnants of night are chased away.
It is a glorious show, the start of a new day.
This is a gift from God, a new day, a new start. I reflect on God’s gift and am grateful. It is pure potential. It is another chance for me to begin again: to be better than I was yesterday. Every day I live I can start over.
Every thing I know on earth has a starting point. Journeys start. Human life has a start. I start new relationships or projects. All I know has a start, except God.
I contemplate God: omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent. He is the mystery of all time. By studying God’s word I know him with human understanding, but God knows me with supreme understanding. Because he knows me and loves me, he gives me the gift of faith to bridge the gap between my human comprehension and my spirit’s hope. Even though I believe, my reasoning cannot fully comprehend God’s being: the existence of a Supreme Being who has no beginning, who does not change, who has no end.
He knows my struggle, so he sends me a gift - a sunrise like no other - to remind me that each new day and all its potential are started by him who said, “Let there be light.”
