Topic: YOUTH (04/04/19)
Looking back on my life I am struck by the number of critical decisions I made when quite young. Decisions that have definitely had an impact on my quality of life now. Early in my high school years I had to decide what course of study I would pursue. Did I want to go to college or did I want to pursue other options? If I chose college, what college would it be? Would I choose a secular college close to home or a Christian college over seven hundred miles away? I also thought about the possibility of marriage. How would I know when I met that special person?

Two Scriptures became my guiding compass. “Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth...” Ecclesiastes 12:1 (KJV) and Proverbs 3:5 and 6, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” (KJV)

As I attended church and youth camps I earnestly sought God’s direction in my life. By working with children, I found Elementary Education to be an appealing career option for me; so I chose the college prep track in my final years of high school. As a result of receiving a small scholarship my college choice became the Christian college. And, the Christian college was where I met my husband.

The path God directed me on led to a Christian marriage, two International adoptions, a career in education, helping in a business started by my husband, to three employment opportunities half-way around the world, to a mission organization in our own country, and back to my home state where my husband and I both continue to pursue what God would have us do. Yes, there have been rainy days, and sometimes we could not see the path clearly, but God has always been faithful.

As I look back over a very satisfying life, I often send a prayer heavenward: “Thank you, Lord, for directing my path from youth to mature age.”

Your testimony is a powerful one. It can be chilling to realize how one young decision can impact our entire lives. If I hadn't had a baby at age 18, my life would be so very different now. But I am blessed beyond belief. What felt like a disaster at first became a huge blessing once I handed it over to God. Nice take on the topic. You made me stop and think too, which is always good.
