Today, June 15th, 2016, the top headlines from USA TODAY covers: Mass shootings; violence erupting during Paris protests over labor reform; NATO's plans for Afghan war through 2020; and A Race to the White House - just to name a few.
The top news headline for my local area reads: Convicted murderer escapes Arkansas prison. The article stated that the man admitted to killing a teenager then stuffed her body in a barrel buried on his brother's property in 2012. At the time of the hideous crime, the escapee was already a registered sex offender and is presently still at large.
Daily our world is penetrated with terrible, tragic, devastating news. We're bombarded with transgender issues; same sex marriages; and assault weapons and gun control rights. Health epidemics like heart disease, cancer, AIDES, and now the Zika virus are running rampant, and children in other parts of the country are starving to death while obesity is a common problem in the states.
Divorce rate is at an all time high; people of all ages, race, and gender are turning to drugs to cope with life; brother is against brother; parents against children and children against parents; and traditional family roles have ceased to exist.
Pastors and youth leaders are getting caught up in immoral behaviors while some television evangelists are making promises of divine intervention in exchange for monetary offerings. Churches are failing to reach out to a lost and dying world while arguing and dividing over what color of carpet should be put in the auditorium!
I also think of the single mother (or father) trying to raise their children in a poverty stricken pit sometimes impossible to climb out of; a widow/widower facing severe loneliness because his or her grown children are so wrapped up in themselves, trying to thrive in a fast paced, chaotic environment.
Then there's the senior citizen living on a fixed income trying to decide whether to purchase food or prescriptions while insurance companies deny doctor's orders for home health that might enable the patient to stay home instead of being placed in a nursing home or rehab facility.
Small business's are going bankrupt due to having to compete with large franchise conglomerates and blue collar workers are living below poverty level even though they go to work each and every day.
As I ponder all of this, I wonder what the world will be like when my grand kids grow up, then realize our world today is slowly but surely fizzling out like ashes left over from a roaring inferno. We're leaving nothing behind but a pile of rubbish for the next generation to figure out how to pilfer through and survive. It breaks my heart and my spirit cries out to God. “When, Lord, when will it all come to an end!”
He softly whispers in reply : “ In the twinkling of an eye, my child – in the twinkling of an eye. I am the Alpha and Omega the beginning and the end. But for now, hold on and keep your focus on me and my divine plan for this world. Here you will have trials and tribulations but in the world to come I will wipe away all your tears and there will be no more heartache, no more sorrow, and no more pain. And someday you'll reign with me in the most highest of places for all eternity!”
I fall to my knees, praising His Holy name as he commands me to: “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. (Matthew 28: 19 & 20 KJV)
