Me: “I’m so happy to finally be able to spend some quality worship time with you! I couldn’t wait to come up here and sit on this hilltop, looking over your beautiful creation while we talk. I’m so full of joy, ready to praise you, and to stay focused on you, Father. I can become so distracted at home and at work. Just the other day when I was sitting on the bus, I was trying to read my daily devotion when a lady sat next to me and started talking my ear off! Why don’t people have more consideration for others? I was obviously ‘busy’, yet she kept on and on…”
God: “Child, you said you were here for me, didn’t you? I’d love to hear what you came here to say.”
Me: “Oh yes. Please forgive me Father. I want to tell you how thankful I am for my many, many blessings. I know I don’t deserve what you’ve given me, but I do thank you and I pray I will always remember that you hold everything in the palm of your mighty hand. I don’t know how people can make it without you. When we were riding on the motorcycle yesterday, I thought the very same thing as I looked up at the sky and the trees and watched as the beautiful green grass was swaying from the breeze. People live their lives, day after day, going to work, coming home, going to work. All the while they don’t think for a moment that there is more to life than our daily routines and our stuff. We get so caught up in stuff…”
God: “Are you still speaking with me? I couldn’t tell, because you seem distracted somehow. Now, you were saying…”
Me: “I can’t believe I did that again. I’m so sorry, Lord. I’m so thankful for your grace over me and your unending mercy. I praise you for this life, and I wait with much joy for your return. Life can get hard at times, as I know you already know. There have even been times when ole’ Satan sneaks in and causes me to doubt you. I’ll begin to wonder why we’re even here. What is our purpose? Why are we born, just to die? Why do we need to work, get married, have children? Who really cares? Then I start to panic a little, and think, what if there is no God? Then… Oh, my goodness. I did it again.”
God: “You sure did…(God chuckles). I know it can be hard to stay focused, but you must try.”
Me: “I know, Father. I truly think Satan keeps sneaking up on me, as usual, just so I won’t spend the time with you that I know I need to. Please help me ignore him, Father. He always seems to be in the middle of everything I do, stirring up trouble. Whenever things seem to be going well, he slithers his way into it somehow, causing me to stumble again. I’m so tired of stumbling, Lord. I want to do your will, but sometimes I feel so helpless. Sometimes I feel so alone.”
God: “Seems to me, you give that old dog, Satan a lot of room to enter in. Right now, you’re having your own pity party, when you said you were here to worship me. I’ll still be your God and Father whether you worship me or not, but I love you so much. Please try to clear your mind of everything and think of me. You are my delight, but it seems I’m only receiving a part of you. Talk to me, child.”
Me: “Oh, Father. Please forgive me. You’re so right. My thoughts keep drifting off, keeping me from spending this beautiful time with you. Father, do you mind if I just sit here and listen for your words? May I just rest in your comfort and peace? (I’m feeling a little sleepy…) God, you are my heavenly Father and I love you so…(yawn), so much. Maybe, if I just lay my head down on the cool grass…yes, that’s better. I love you…(zzzzzzz) Lord…”
God: “I love you too, child. You are always safe in My care…(God smiles).”
