After eliminating gluten, sugar, yeast and dairy from my diet eight weeks ago, I’m now instructed to tweak it by cutting out ALL grains and fruit!
I’m to sandwich my burger in lettuce leaves and eat chia pudding with stevia for dessert. No chocolate, icecream, cake….not even an APPLE!
I’m thinking about food all the time, because, aside from carrot and celery sticks, you can’t just “grab and go”. I’ve been fermenting vegies (with a view to consumption – not just leaving them too long in the fridge!), activating seeds (you soak them then dehydrate them again…), boiling bones for forty-eight hours to make healthy bullion, and defending the beetroot, kale and herbs I’ve grown, from snails.
Don’t get me wrong – my lamp goes out at night, I don’t shop from merchant ships (in fact I don’t even shop online!) and I haven’t set about my work “vigorously” for quite some time.
I’m sick and I want to get well.
I’ve prayed and rested, asked the Lord if there’s anything He wants me to know, called the elders to pray, and considered many suggestions shared by my Christian brothers and sisters. I’ve read Andrew Murray, F.F. Bosworth and a few others on healing, and many faithfuls have prayed consistently for me.
Doctors have guessed at what ails me, and I have had drugs to match their suggestions.
Eight weeks ago, I decided to try the food-elimination path. I sucked my last lolly, ate my last toast and jam, and allowed the hot cross buns to pass me by.
Things started to change.
Two weeks later, I was able to stop having a daytime sleep. The aches and pains lifted. Surely not…? After two years?
Another two weeks passed and I could clean the house in one day – not one ROOM, but the whole house!
Two more weeks, and I was swimming a kilometer three times per week.
Want to know what bothers me?
WHY the foods God made for us to eat and enjoy are bothering our bodies!
What’s the problem with sugar? Could my lollies be really that bad? ( Well, perhaps they’re the weakest part of the argument - what, with their colouring, flavouring, and the various numbers on the ingredients list, indicating ingredients too awful to name…)
But what about milk and honey? God did not promise the Israelites “a land of almond milk and stevia”! There’s no mention of a gluten-free alternative offered with the fishes on the mountainside, and manna didn’t come with variations for intolerances.
I’m testing theories. This week’s?
That it’s part of the corruption that’s across-the-board. Twenty-first century illnesses borne out of twenty-first century practices - practices that have their roots in greed, for the most part. Man messing up the food chain to make more money. Man messing with the planet and interfering with systems God designed, so that the immunity He also designed, breaks down.
Anyway, I’ve been sick and I’m getting better!
I’ll dunk a carrot stick in almond butter while you break open the Lindt box, and we’ll thank the Lord for answered prayer!
