What kind of mess is the language in?
Does anyone else consider it sin?
I think we must ask King James.
"Good James, Most Excellent
Highness of yore -
Could they not hold on four centuries more?
What do they think the language is for?
Beg pardon, Sir, Who is to blame?"
"I proffer mine hunch -
For manners unsubtil,
That Eugene must answer for wordings that startle,
And renderings shameless, expressions informal –
What thought he? To say it in plain?"
"What of the assemblage
Who chang-ed such wordings as “make graven image”
Or “Cameth they unto Him, bringing Him homage” -
Are not such meddlings in vain?"
"Forsooth, I must call it
Findeth they fault, and call it confusing -
I cannot imagine what could be the reason
Except but tradition disdain?"
"Sore license they’ve taken
With things orthographic
To modernize spellings of words theologic -
Adding of commas and words in italic -
Behooveth it me to complain!"
"Prithee, one moment -
My mobile is ringing
And followers of my Twitter are tweeting
Mayhap there be multiple friendships requesting –
One moves to the modern refrain..."

One Word, Royal Highness: PROFANE!"
