She felt like she was engulfed by a dark, stormy cloud, like she had fallen into a deep, dark pit. She struggled daily trying to climb out of the darkness, but her distorted thoughts kept her hopeless.

Occasionally she heard noises and sometimes voices in her head, taunting her and haunting her ears. At times, she held her breath, fear had enveloped the core of her being.

The demons saw her weaknesses and they preyed upon them; fear, hate, bitterness, envy, and a non-forgiving heart. These sins caused overwhelming guilt within her. She felt so unworthy. She had failed without any hope of a cure for her pain.

One night, in the darkness, she ran until her chest caved heavily with each painful breath. The night was quiet, dark and eerie. Where was she running too, she wondered, and what was she running from? She felt that it really didn't matter.

She needed to feel secure, but she didn't. She needed to feel loved, but she didn't. She needed to feel worthy, but she didn't. She needed to feel happy, but she didn't.

Have you ever felt this way, trapped in a downward spiral of loneliness or regret? Have you ever felt you have fallen into the deep, dark pit of darkness and you can't climb out? Have you ever felt no desire to get up and face the day ahead of you? Have you ever faced depression or feelings of desperation? Have you ever wanted to end the pain and take away the life that God gave you? You are not alone. Even Christians face these dark, gloomy periods.

Maybe you have felt the guilt and the shame associated with these feelings. Where do you turn? Can you see your way out of that place? Though it is difficult, there is always a way.

When we stay in the dark, gloomy depths of depression, we are only letting Satan continue to hold us within his grasp. We are allowing the evil works of his demons to overtake us, only leading us to have sinful emotions. The further we fall, the more difficult it is to rise again when we try to face it alone.

When embraced by Satan's grasp, we sometimes forget the security we once had in our Savior, Jesus Christ. We forget to reach out to Him and give ourselves completely to Him. When we do that, it is then we can climb out of the hole. We do not do this alone, He is there lifting us, guiding us, and embracing us with His love and grace.

When you face the darkness, remember the spiritual warfare that rages around you. The demons are fighting to keep you in the darkness. White light and angels are trying to rescue you. Are you willing to take that one step in prayer to ask for God's love and grace to lift you up? To be obedient to God, we have to humble ourselves when we have fallen, admit our sins and let Him take complete control.

One whole-hearted cry out to Jesus can show you the unbelievable. He can lift you up to higher places. Though sometimes the path is slow, His everlasting love stands strong. He gives strength when we are weak. The only thing needed is to invite Him in, give your life to Him again, and show the evil that is holding you that there is something so much stronger.

There is something in all our lives that overpowers all else, the love that Jesus has for us. Don't deny Him when you are down in the depths of despair, but run to Him with every part of your body, mind, and soul. He will not let you down.

A very good article that should be read by those who are going through difficult times. Thanks for sharing.

You've hit on such important truths. Sometimes we've lived in the dark so long, we actually fight against letting it go, and returning to the light and the joy it represents. Thanks for the encouragement.
