I can’t help but think that perhaps life, and salt and pepper share a common trait. As we add salt and pepper “to taste” to enhance our food, time spent with a friend complements our lives.

I hadn’t spoken with my long-time friend in several months and decided to call. Her excited, happy voice instantly breached the miles when she answered her cell phone exclaiming, “Oh…Jen, it’s good to hear from you!”

Envisioning her smile and twinkling eyes I replied “Hi Beth, it’s so good to hear your voice. I’ve been thinking about you. I’ve called several times, but your voice mail is full and I couldn’t even leave a message.”

Not able to resist my usual urge to tease her, I continued, “…and I know you don’t check email.”

Beth and I have been friends since elementary school. Although we grew up together, our adult lives took very different paths. Despite the diversity, we talk easily about life’s flavorings – even those that seem to be over-peppered. Beth’s education and accomplishments far surpass mine, yet she never ceases to remind me of my gifts and talents.

Our minutes-long-conversation seasoned-just-right a bland, otherwise ordinary day, and rekindled our not-seeing-each-other-very-often relationship.

Aww...sweet and poignant tale. Nicely told.
God bless~

Thanks for sharing a sweet "well seasoned" story! My only suggestion would be to think about somehow re-wording the last paragraph so as to not contain as many hyphens. They seemed to make the last few sentences read a bit choppy (for me anyway).

Friendships really do add so much to our lives! I am so much richer for life-long friendships that season my own life. This is a lovely story and reminded me of how blessed I am.

Well written.

I could feel the love you had for your friend. Good job.

God bless
