Try this – I think and think but nothing comes. Distractions snatch my time and fill my thinking space. Commitments mean little time for writing.
That’s more like it.
Challenge topics are given, and sometimes bring excitement. More often I think whatever can I do for that?
Idioms can be fun, but also a nightmare. What do you do when elephants are in the room and pigs are trying to fly? Curiosity almost killed the cat when it was trying to find the fish out of water. The wolf in sheep’s clothing was not camouflaged enough. When the woodcutter saw him it was like a red rag to a bull.
The black sheep of the family made noises but his bark was worse than his bite. I feel like a fish out of water when I present an entry which I think is sub-standard. Why did I think I could write?
Presenting work to the public is sometimes like living in a goldfish bowl, open to scrutiny. The feedback straight from the horse’s mouth can be wonderful and encouraging, but can also be scary.
I only managed one of those topics. I felt at my wit’s end trying to think of how to write about them or incorporate them into a story. Never mind, it is not the end of the world. Another series will come and maybe there will be topics I find easier.
Keep going. Persevere. Try again. One day there will be light at the end of the tunnel and inspiration will come.
