It's winter time, the days are short
Our eyes are glued to winter sports
Outside the sun seems low and cold
The leaves are tinted harvest gold.

Hard to believe, all said and done
That we're no farther from the sun
Than we were back in late July
Dripping sweat and 'bout to die

I shiver here beneath my quilt
Because this planet's got a tilt
Heat or air, my comfort zone
Quickly tells which side I'm on

Sometimes faith can be like that
It's not about how close we sat
To God that tells how warm we feel
When challenged to religious zeal

We read the Bible every day
But there are parts we don't obey
Some actions, too, to which we're blind
Because we just aren't so inclined

If our spirit's like a winter's day
Perhaps it's time to think and pray
That God's great hand descend anon
And help to tilt us toward His Son

Ah..such a welcome relief!... after reading so many WINTER submissions - I was beginning to think that rhyme and reason were out of style, then I came upon yours! Thank you for such a beautiful poetic way to express my winter thoughts!

It seems the winter brings out the poet in many FW! But having said that, a lovely little piece with good rhyme and rhythm. Well done.
