How not to get her fingers burned
Through many trials, by lovers spurned
A timely end to life she yearned
Beguiling, enticing, he reeled her in
Alluring, he wooed her; two spirits akin
His furtive motive her sweet heart to win
Vulnerable, defenceless, she sank deep in sin
“I’ll give you the confidence to change your life”
He said, “Do not fret over trivia and strife
Search deep inside, for your power-house is rife
Sever self-doubt with the sharpest knife
“Self-worth and assurance will spring from the source
Believe in your own motivational force
Become who you wish, any way; no remorse
Yours is the ultimate power to enforce
“It’s all about you now; I’ll set you free
From a life of angst and misery
I’ll make you a giant of men; stick by me
I nurture my own; come on in, and you’ll see”
“Freedom,” she chanted. “Freedom from whom?
I can’t escape self ‘cause I’m here
I can’t escape you, now you’re messing my head
I’m a failure. It’s you that I fear
“Your self-help advice is freaking me out
In your sorcerous net I’m now caught
Positive thinking; believe and it’s yours?
A power source - that springs from a thought?
“Tell me Deceiver, from where does it spring?
There’s nothing so grand in my head
It’s you - you’re the source of my misinformed thoughts
You took note that I’m easily led
“You are cunning and sly, and your mind-games lie
In wait of a victim to pounce
Devious, deluding, you prey on weak souls; NO!
Your evil schemes I will renounce
“I hear a whisper
In the silence
Of this heart you choose to steal” …
’Remember, you’re MINE
I’m waiting for YOU
Your lapses to heal and to seal
‘Whisper MY NAME
Again, yet again
Sound it abroad
That I AM the Lord
There is power in MY NAME
To break every chain
Speak it aloud for
In me you’re avowed
‘To break Satan’s claim
SPEAK MY NAME’
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. (James 4:7 NIV)
