No little boys will play in dirt,
Swipe grimy hands on fresh clean shirt.
They’ll sit in church as still as mice—
You’ll have no need to shush them twice.
An early bedtime they won't miss
Nor wipe away your goodnight kiss.
At lunch they’ll never hesitate
To eat the veggies on their plate.
They’ll say that eating cake’s a crime
And skip dessert most all the time.
They’ll never pull their sisters’ hair;
To tease them, they’ll not ever dare.
They’ll try to speak with softest tone
When you are on the telephone.
They’ll make their beds up every day
Before they even go to play.
They’ll always walk when they could run,
And they won’t think dumb jokes are fun.
They’ll love to take a bath or shower;
In fact, they’ll take one every hour.
They’ll pick their clothes up off the floor,
Without complaint, complete each chore.
These things will happen by and by;
That is for sure. . . and pigs might fly.

What a fun poem that I could see getting published in a children's magazine. Four of my five kids are boys and you described them perfectly--when pigs fly of course.

This is a great poem! I like the way you've used the topic and described so aptly what little boys (don't) do. I enjoyed the rhymes and rhythm too. Well done!
Beth LaBuff 11/12/13
Perfection on a page! You encapsulated what every little boy is sure NOT to do in this reader-captivating bit of whimsy. I love your clever approach! <3

I really like your poetry, Verna. I looked into your 2 books on AMAZON, and I'm just waiting until I get paid. Both are rated 5 stars!

Congratulations on your 1st place EC award. God bless you and your future writing.

So uncharacteristic of boys making it so perfect for the topic. Great concept and congratulations on your first place ribbon.

This lighthearted poem was a perfect fit for the topic. The fluid flow and unforced rhyme made this most enjoyable to read. Congratulations on placing 1st with this deserving piece.
