It's a boy! It's a boy!
Wonderful bundle of joy!
Let's all join and celebrate.
Remember -- special date.
A brother and a son,
My dreams have come,
Our family now complete,
Sleep little baby, sleep.

Rock-a-bye baby
In a tree top.
An answer to prayer,
But lullabies stop.

I really need some sleep.
Hush baby, don't weep.
I'm tired, exhausted, worn.
My spirit is badly torn.
It's tough being a mum,
Nightmares now come,
Joyful rain now sleet,
Sleep damn it, sleep.

Sheep jump the fence,
A different tune,
Cats, fiddles and Jack,
One scary moon.

The honeymoon is over,
I never found the clover.
Romance roamed away,
Five kids and rent to pay.
Every day a new fight,
Anger -- scratch and bite.
The kids get me down,
Move over Cathy's Clown.

She loves me not,
Love, love me do.
Running the streets,
Sniffing the glue.

Never stood a chance,
Born in poverty's dance.
Baker down the lane,
No longer love's refrain.
Scream at the kids,
Bash the pots and lids.
Drive them all away,
Wild animals to the fray.

It's all over Red Rover,
Done and dusted.
Left the fold,
Drug bust -- busted.

Family -- dysfunctional.
Logic -- irrational.
Ego -- non-existent.
Relationships -- distant.
Psych -- psychotic.
Emotions -- neurotic.
Support -- none.
Hope -- gone.

Baa baa, black sheep?
Not one but all.
Never stood a chance.
A family -- no romance.

Ten years is the price,
Jail -- mental lice.
Time to pray and think.
Rewrite, indelible ink.
Wrong family, right time,
Learn from the crime.
New choice -- I'd rather,
Right family, new Father.

Everlasting arms,
What a Friend,
A new beginning,
A different end.

Powerfully done. Unique and expressively different.

Great job.

God bless~

The progression of the MC's life takes the reader on a journey of raw emotions that end in triumph. Liked the way you used children's games and old songs to support the mood of this piece. Well done.

Wow! When I first started reading this I thought it was going to be a jolly poem. The mood change saddened me, but glad to find the hopeful ending. Interesting use of nursery rhymes, very creative.

Wow what a powerful piece. I really like how you wove the lullabies and nursery rhymes into this piece. Great take on the topic and original and fresh. Congratulations on ranking 19th overall!
