Creamy, waxy, frangipani
Centre, golden as the sun,
Fragrant sweetness – captivating!
Delightful bloom - second to none!
Small of stature - dark and spreading
Twisted limbs wrapped with leaf green
Floral fullness, in abundance,
Multi-coloured waxy sheen.
I remember our first meeting
On a distant sunny isle,
Where I wondered at your beauty,
Stood, transfixed, for quite a while.
Your loveliness, dear frangipani,
Rarely graces England’s leas
Thriving instead in balmy climates
‘Neath blue skies and gentle breeze.
Favourite tree, though rare I see you
With your petals - cream, pink, gold,
You shed loveliness and beauty
To everyone who you behold.
Then, surprised, I came across you
In a garden, by the sea,
And cried with joyful re-uniting
To meet you there by Galilee.
I wondered, did my Lord and Saviour,
Walking by that reed-fringed lake,
Stop to finger waxy petals
His created hand did make?
Creamy, waxy, frangipani
Centre, golden as the sun,
You have lessons you would teach me
If I would consider them …
May the Son be too my centre,
May beauteous flowers from Him abound
In my life, may His sweet fragrance
Spread to others all around.
Favourite tree, I meet you rarely,
Seldom feast upon your view,
So I took petals from the pathway
To help me to remember you.
Sadly now, their colour, texture,
Long has passed to brown decay
But you live on within my memory,
And we may meet another day.

I wonder if when you posted this it didn’t format correctly? For taking it all in one gulp, for me, detracted a bit. It would have been easier to read, absorb and digest broken up into stanzas. But that aside...what a lovely poem, about a lovely tree reflecting and reminding of the loveliness of Jesus! Love the message too, that we should try and reflect the beauty of Jesus, just as so much of His creation does. Makes you think if God gave us such beauty here, (as the frangipani tree and others)
and yet says we cannot even imagine the beauty in Heaven…wow. Enjoyed the lovely vision this brought to my mind!

I really enjoyed your poetry. I am not one who often enjoys the genre, but your entry was wonderful.

"Stop to finger waxy petals
His creative hand did make?"

- my favorite line!

Thank you for sharing.

This was so interesting that you could take an entire piece about a flower, keep it interesting and provide a great message too!

God bless~
