When my feet meet a fork
My heart quivers,
Knowing that the rest of my life will be carved
Permanently,
By the choice I make today. There will be no
Going back,
No rewind
Or replay.
No, today I choose
Left or right,
Forever.

What path do I choose?
My heart beats faster
As I gaze at my watch, knowing that time
Is limited.
I must shape the rest of my life,
I must choose a future
And step forward
Left or right,
Forever.

Voices stir my brain,
My heart fills with eddies,
My feet turn to the left, and then to the right,
And then turn around again.
I hear a whisper,
But doubts overwhelm it.
I hear another undertone,
But waves come crashing down again
And again—
Is it left? Is it right?
How can I know
What is best,
Forever?

But as time expires, I know I must choose
Or stay put
Forever.
So I dam the little doubts
One by one,
And with a smile
Listen to the whisper
And step forward
Toward what is right,
Forever.

Well written. I like the pattern established and the way each verse ends with "Forever" Thought proviking. Good job!

Very impressive poem, so powerful in its simplicity! Its ending words: “And step forward, toward what is right, forever” explodes with meaning, vision and message! Masterfully done! Thoroughly enjoyed the read!
