On a lonely hillside sat a shepherd boy,
Watching oíer his fold with tender care,
Often seeking out some little wandering lamb
Who never knew the dangers lurking there.
His young heart caught a glimpse of the mighty God
Whose power was great and whose help was sure.
Whether lion or bear, beasts were overcome,
And the flock lay down, all safe and secure.
Armed fully with his faith, a sling and some stones,
The youth faced a giant whose threats rang loud.
With Godís special people and purpose at stake,
The giant fell dead in front of the crowd.
Chosen by God, to be both leader and king,
The young boy followed along in His plan.
To shepherd His people became the great task
Of the faithful child becoming a man.
As his flock was expanded by God alone,
David sang and prayed in times set apart,
Sweet Psalmist of Israel, seeking the Lord,
And himself the man after Godís own heart.
