Listen, do you hear it--the distant humming oíer the hills
And into thirsty valleys, murmuring voices spill
Notes thud on cement jungles where povertyís the rule
Thereís a droning, an emptiness where love should be the fuel
Buzzing melodies imbue tones of desperation
Not only for man, but all of Godís creation
Polluted streams, smoggy air, oil dumped in rolling oceans
What happened to the caring for all things with devotion

Shh, someoneís singing words that ride the gentle wind
From an open window lovely lyrics don't pretend
They spread a hopeful message to people on the street
Like summer days Iím warmed by the voice Iíll never meet
Iím just one person with my Bible and pious cause
Handing tracts to strangers, praying, please let someone pause
Long enough to read and understand what the choice is
Be trapped by friendly wolves or set free by truth-filled voices

On blue horizons, a crowd with raised, rejoicing hands
Gather by heavenís gate where a new saint kneels, then stands
Many come to meet and greet with joyous, shining faces
A welcome hymn crescendos into out-of-worldly spaces
Thereís banjos strumming, children humming and base drums pounding beats
And every single resident has heavenly happy feet
Entering perfect peace, I finally realize
Itís me at Godís gate, awestruck by dazzling eyes

I donít recall leaving my worldly post on Beacon Street
Did I depart with drama or go unnoticed in retreat
Each thought turned to vapor, a rainbow colored mist
Never to return, worldly thoughts here donít exist
Time has no calculation, nor is there ever night
Love emanates everywhere, and it is Jesus bright
Angelic choirs sing praises to God, His Majesty
Robed now in finest linen, I join the jamboree

This is very descriptive, with a stark look at earth and an upward look to heaven. It caused me to think about how important it is to embrace the truth and to pass it on. Good rhythm and meaningful.

What great depths you have covered in this lovely poem. You describe well the groanings of creation, the cries of the human heart, reaching out with the Gospel. Very telling lines - 'to understand what the choice is
Be trapped by friendly wolves or set free by truth-filled voices'
I love verse 4 particularly and the beautiful descriptions of Heaven. Thankyou for this.
