While I would like to catch my breath,
No matter how I try,
It stays before me constantly
And will until I die.

I tried to rest on my laurels
But jumped up very quickly.
Although they’re nice to look upon,
Their painful spikes are prickly.

I’ve wanted to grab some shut eye
But never been successful.
Eyes closed, I can’t see what to grab,
And that is slightly stressful.

I planned to sleep around the clock,
But it was way too small.
My torso couldn’t stretch that much.
I didn’t rest at all.

I lost some sleep awhile ago,
And now I cannot find it.
If I could tell where it might be,
I don’t think I would mind it.

My boss told me to take a break,
But he did not say where.
I asked him, “In my leg or arm?”
He said he didn’t care.

Because I nodded during lunch,
My shirt of white and navy
Has spots of soup and chocolate,
But all the rest is gravy.

I promised I would rest my case,
But when it came down to it,
I couldn’t find an empty desk,
And so I couldn’t do it.

As for the rest of the story,
The future I can’t see.
Though I don’t know what lies ahead,
The rest is history.

You came through again. Great title and word play!

From start to finish you entertain the reader with your creativity and wit. I especially enjoyed the "sleep around the clock" but your "torso couldn't stretch that much" and the stanza with the spots of "soup and chocolate, but all the rest is gravy." Your title is perfecto! :) Love this!

The title gave a clue of the fun read to follow. Delightful!

Hahahahahahahahahahaha.

I'm still laughing. I read it three times, and will again before logging out.

Nicely done.

God bless~

Ah man I love this this and the best part is I think I understood every pun and play on words--that doesn't happen to me very often. This is a delightful poem. And I will rest my case!

This is great fun to read - the plays on words, the humor. Well done!

Fantastic fun. So many meanings included. Playful, witty, a delightful surprise at every turn.
