If images of heartbreak make no impact on me
Then take away my sight, I don’t deserve to see
If what I feel while living never stirs my inner soul
Something’s surely wrong--I must be less than whole

If words I dare to speak puncture someone else’s joy
Then shut my mouth forever, it’s not worthy to employ
If I do not respond in kindness to another’s needs
Then I shall live a lonely life in proportion to my deeds

For life to have dimension I must look beyond myself
Seek with true compassion, then humbly offer help
“Hear me Lord, I need You,” she sobbed into the night
“Help me come alive, give me strength to face the fight”

“Too long I’ve been flat-lined by wrongs done unto me
Pain can be destructive--please Lord, won’t you set me free”
And that was the beginning of a life no longer dead
All it took was asking--Jesus listened as I plead

I lingered far too long on that barren desert floor
I gave to Him my burdens--He gave love and so much more
I am a brand new person--serving Him became my goal
And with each change of heart came a healing for my soul

Proverbs 4:23 (NLT) Above all else, guard your heart, for it affects everything you do.

I like your thoughts and the flow of the verse. A question: why no ending punctuation?
