What did he say to make them squirm
What is the lesson they won’t learn
How can he help them to discern
The message of the day

Why does it irritate them so
To hear a message they should know
It’s roots are trust, which helps them grow
If only they’d obey

The sermon that caused folks duress
Taught of tithing one tenth--no less
It’s hard to give what is possessed
Greed keeps pure love at bay

Fatigued, discouraged and annoyed
He called on God--his spirit buoyed
Encouragement from heav’n deployed
In thankfulness he prayed

The widow’s coins make it clear
Blessed are those who give with cheer
Her empty pockets drew Him near
Too much can lead astray

And so the pastor challenged those
Whose fingers clutched their wealth and clothes
How will you score do you suppose
When all things go away

Do for others what you can
Share your gifts with open hands
Love each other, it’s God’s command
Then joy will be your pay

November next Pledge Sunday came
Pews were packed, lives weren’t the same
The members learned each other’s names
God’s words lit up their way

This is a lovely reminder. I think many people can relate. Things are tight nowadays and it can be harder to tithe when you're worried about buying food for your family but God always provides and in ways we may never see coming. Good job!

You could almosy sing this. Just one of the lessons it is harder to learn, but such a blessing once you do. God bless you.

I LOVE your poetic format here. You poem flows and your message warms. I was so excited to see this recognized on the EC list. Congrats, Charla!

Wonderful way to present the topic! It was the second read through when it really flowed and revealed itself to me. Well done!
