An orphaned boy left to the streets
Alone, afraid of those he meets
Hunger makes him beg and steal
Starvation hurts--it’s all too real
God gave the mandate, it was He
Who said to love--each child is Me
When last was my hand extended
Forgive me Lord, for I’ve offended
This son craves love and joy --who will help?
Home from the war, his wounds still oozing
From tragic events not of his choosing
This soldier’s mind, nightmares make
Attempted rest brings sweats and shakes
Time comes to re-enter society
His demons hide with propriety
His mind’s at war with faith now weak
It’s godly help this young man seeks
My son needs peace--will you point him to Me?
A little time would cost me naught
To care for those whose lives are wrought
With hopeless days and sleepless nights
It just takes one to help them fight
Perhaps one needs a listening ear
To know another’s deepest fear
Nursing homes filled with despair
Their patients crave some personal care
These children need patience and kindness --you willing?
A young girl bullied each day in school
By those who ignore the Golden Rule
How dare they simply presuppose
She has no worth, judged by her clothes
She attends each class uptight and tense
Her feelings bared, there’s no pretense
Tormentors laugh and get their kicks
With snide remarks and devilish tricks
My daughter needs goodness at her defense--will you risk it?
The shelter’s full--they’re turned away
Stark desperation drapes their day
Some in pairs, some families
While a loner sobs, “Help me please”
Clouds warn of the approaching storm
The loner yells, “Wish I weren’t born!”
Tired of groveling, words blast his pain
He backs down the street in full disdain
This son needs faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control--yes, a challenging task.
