Green beans, potatoes, and macaroni, too.
Seven plates of each of them?
Oh, whatís a girl to do?
We cannot hold a potluck
with two starches and some green beans.
There has to be some other food
like ham steak and braised collard greens.
But, when itís time for potluck
No one ever stops to think
that if someone else is bringing pie,
they probably should bring the drinks.

It doesnít take an awful lot
before we get together
to double-check with others
and try to find out whether
a dish that we would like to bring
was not already picked
so we donít all bring the same thing in
and cause some more conflict.

So, I guess the next meal
will have to be a Safari Supper
so I can go from door to door
putting each course into a Tupper
and burping shut the seal
so that the next potluck
that we have planned
will at least have some appeal.

This is cute little poem. It's weird how things like that go. I've been to some where everyone brings baked beans and then the next one there isn't a baked bean in sight but tons of macaroni salad!
