What am I?
A heap of bones and flesh
Pitched together
Randomly?

My mouth, my lips, my tongue form words -
Thoughts articulated
Germinating
In the dense mass of grey matter

But who ever saw a thought
Or a sound
Or a fragrance?
Why do I weep
And laugh
And sing – Why?
What’s going on?
What am I?

If I am a miracle created by a higher being, then
Who made him or her or it?
Whatever else I do not know
I do know that I’m here
I know I didn’t make me, so
Something else is happening
What?
Where?
How?

One day I will die
And nothing will be left of me
My heart will cease to beat, and
The pumping blood,
The river of life will halt its flow
My flesh and bones will decompose.

Will I still be pondering then?
I think not!
The fleshly grey tool of thought is gone
Eaten by the worms.

How I have mulled this over
And over
Read books
Sought wisdom
And never found the answer

Until …

One day I threw up my hands in despair

“Maker of me
Please don’t leave this bewildered soul to swirl
In a dark void of emptiness
While feelings, unfamiliar to me
Stir up inside -
Intangible
Invisible and
Deeply lacking
Yet seeking always
Telling me
There’s more to ‘I’ than this.”

Then something amazing …

I’m not happy, no
Could I be happy in a world of distress
Hatred
Greed
Poverty
Disease
Babies who starve in a world of plenty?

No! I’m not happy –
I’m joyous!
Exultant
Thankful
Comforted
Secure, and loved
Eternally
Because You Lord, called me
And patiently waited
Until I was broken enough to respond

My questions once puerile, foolish I know
But then
My eyes not yet opened
To You
Your Spirit whispered
Now all things made plain
Your claim on my life
I will to obey

And now I see clearly
My heart must be yours
The seat of emotion and will
The centre of wisdom,
Perspective and love
My heart -
Yours

In essence, the person
To me it refers
All of me not just a part
What I do
What I think
What I speak
From the person flow these things -
The whole person
In You

There is no greater love
There’s nothing to equal my joy, than
To keep my mind focused
My heart to abide
At all times
Regardless of all

No
Circumstance
Hardship
Downturn or woe
Must tear me away from …

The Source
Of all knowledge
And wisdom
And power

Your continuing love
And presence
Assured
In YOU I abide

I will stumble
Or fall
My flesh will creep in
But so long as I ask
You’ll forgive me
You know well my failings
Repent – sin again
Never perfect
In this earthly frame

But one thing You ask that I do …

Distractions –

Turn away from what lures me
Before it ensnares me
MY heart is now YOURS
No longer my own
I am YOURS
I abide in YOU

My boundaries flow from my relationship with THE LIVING GOD!

This is breathtakingly beautiful - the journey of a soul. Parts of it read like a Psalm of old. From the depths of despair, the cry of helplessness to the joy of salvation. It is just wonderful to read - thank you so much for this.

This is an amazing entry...Beautifully written, and so inspiring.

It's is akin to "David" crying out to the Lord in Psalms. I loved this. Thank you.

God bless~
