One nourishes and protects a relationship with the Spirit of the Living God in the same manner they would nourish and protect any other relationship: by the give and take of continuous communication. The obvious problem is, that it is difficult for most humans, even believers, to communicate with a spirit. A spirit is a spirit, not a human being with spiritual qualities. A spirit can’t talk to you, at least not verbally. A Spirit can’t walk with you In the park or go to a department store and buy you a present. The Spirit of God must express his love for you in other ways which are more subtle and less easy to recognize. But if the relationship is to be vibrant, vigorous and effective, a believer must make a habit of allowing the Spirit to demonstrate his love in inconspicuous ways.
For example: one could allow the Spirit to open up a convenient parking place in a crowded shopping mall: cause the rain to stop long enough for the believer to go from his car to his house or place of business: keep the believer healthy when most of his associates have a head cold or symptoms of the flu. The Spirit can even help a believer to smooth out a difficult situation with a spouse, family member or friend. It is just amazing how the Spirit can transfer an idea from the mind of a believer to the believer’s friend without the believer ever saying a word.
The Holy Spirit is the most powerful force in the universe. He wants very badly to express his love. We who believe must give him the chance and in so doing protect and preserve the heart of the Christian experience.

While in my life I don't see him stopping the rain as much as I suddenly think of a person and am drawn to pray for them and at times to reach out and call them. It's when I find out that the moment I was thinking of that person that they were going through a hard time that I know that it was the Spirit working in both of us. It is amazing. Good job.
God Bless~
