I am a risk taker
I bet on the high stakes
No penny ante poker
Or quarter slots for me
I run with the big boys
Gambler is my name

I am a risk taker
Sipping from my popís glass
Sneaking in the locker room
Taking a hidden hit or two
High low ecstasy numb
Drug Lover is my name

I am a risk taker
The thrill is the thing
Speed is the ultimate
On the course on the dirt
On the open road
Extreme Sport is my name

I am a risk taker
I will not recant
I will not go against conscience
That is neither safe nor wise
I will do the right and daring
Believer is my name

Will the real risk taker please stand up?

I cannot says Gambler
I am bankrupt and alone
I cannot says Drug Lover
I am dead from liver failure
I cannot says Extreme Sport
I am serving 30 to life for negligent homicide

Here I stand, I can do no other
So help me God, says Believer

"Unless I am convinced by proofs from Scriptures or by plain and clear reasons and arguments, I can and will not retract, for it is neither safe nor wise to do anything against conscience. Here I stand. I can do no other. God help me. Amen." Martin Luther, April 1521

This was a deep and powerful entry. I had to read it two times to understand it fully. Good job.

God Bless~

This was a powerfully short piece with lots of punch. Liked the concluding quote from a big risk taker--Martin Luther.

I have just read this amazing and powerful piece that is so intense with reality. You have captured the subject magnificently. It makes the heart ache with its truth particularly if its relevant to someone we love - I suspect from your title that may be the case?
I would not be surprised if this scored highly but even if not, it spoke to my heart, so thank you.
Margaret Kearley 05/31/12
Sorry - I am slow! I now guess this title refers to the amazing Martin Luther!

What truth written in so few words! Congratulations on your well deserved EC!

I read this earlier in the week, and it touched my in a personal way. I wasn't up to leaving a comment then, but you certainly deserve to be congratulated. Wonderful writing!
