Silken drapes, drawn back with tasseled cord,
Frame elegant windows with stunning views
Of willows blowing and fountains flowing,
Myriad roses in brilliant hues.
Winding paths approach a massive door,
Breathtaking to all who enter there;
Wealth breathes from the walls, follows the halls,
Pervading all the atmosphere.
Inside, a family gathers to dine,
‘Round a table of lavish display.
Yet a sense of stress, as schedules press,
Leaves no time to give thanks or pray.
Silent emptiness goes unexplained,
Distance more distant, as the years roll;
Bodies well-fed, God’s Word left unsaid,
Results in need and hunger of soul.
Wealth is not measured in tangible mass,
Nor by the world’s view of gain.
But in joys to share with those who care,
Are value and worth made plain.
To see the great Creator’s hand
In blessings, either large or small,
Is to grasp beyond doubt what life is about,
Embracing the One Who gave it all.
