The rays of sunlight in the evening
Gave energy to fight,
It surged me through the doldrums
And lifted me for flight;
But when my dreams declined
The sun dipped out of sight;
How can I journey onward
Through the coldness of the night?
My dreams have fueled my pilgrimage,
They've kept my passions warm;
But now they've vanished in the west
And left my heart to mourn.
If I would seek what I desire
I'd turn back toward the west,
To chase the sunlight I have lost,
And sacrifice my quest;
But in spite of all the pain I feel
I know I must go on;
I'm called to travel through the night
And fly without the sun.
Determination is rewarded,
My heart will have its feast;
New dreams far greater than all I lost
Will rise up in the east.
