Scribing for God

“Take a scroll and write on it all the words I have spoken to you… from the time I began speaking to you… till now…” — Jeremiah 36:2 (NIV)

One would think a seasoned journalist would jump at the chance to write for God instead of hard-nosed editors in public arena. If that’s true, why has nearly a decade passed since God’s call on my life became obvious? He’s been dictating in this reporter’s direction, but procrastination abounds and intimidation reeks when it comes to sharing His works.

Even quick reviews of journal entries with relevant Scriptures, day after day and year after year, reveal a clear divine appointment to be one of His scribes. Still, sharing words as an eye-witness of God seems to be a lot easier said than done.

My honed investigative instincts seem to call for a more thorough review of the evidence. This has become an overwhelming project at times. I have to admit, however, that God’s work definitely shines through journals, creative writings, newspaper clippings and other memorabilia of my years as a writer.

I know I must honor God’s Word when it comes to the sharing His messages and eye-witness accounts of His presence with younger generations. What’s stopping me? They’re everywhere, bits and pieces of days gone by, echoes of blessings long forgotten in the busyness of living. Why are they still sitting in boxes and bags? God knows.

Dear Father, You’re so awesome. You’ve shown me glimpses of Your plan for my work. Please fill me with Your Spirit so I may accomplish this work for You. Grant me inspiration to share life lessons in ways that You speak to those who read what You have me write for down for You. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

I enjoyed this devotion. I like how you shared a personal message and then related it to scriptures. I joke that sometimes God has to throw bricks at me before I listen. As humans, we do tend to want to do it our way!

This spoke to me. No. It screamed at me.

My writing spurred from a mountain-top moment, bright light, God's voice, and unexplainable coincidences, like 'How to Write' and 'Write His Answer' books popping into my face, having come from nowhere.

I know why I write. To glorify God. But I still have no idea what that means, exactly.

So yes, this spoke to me, and I found it inspiring!

Thank you.

This probably spoke to me more than any entry I've read so far. I love the prayer at the end. Thanks for sharing this! God bless!
