“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” - Jesus

She always said that someday
She would embrace faith
And step out on the water
To taste the banquet
Set before her.
But right now
She feels content sitting in the boat
Watching fish swim by.

She always said that someday
She would cast off the chains that hold her
And live in the freedom
Held out to her.
But right now
She feels secure with the shackles
Binding her ankles.

She always said that someday
She would dance on the waves
With Jesus,
To run in the fields of Heaven
And laugh the days away.
But right now she’s tired,
Far too tired
To rest.

The delights of eternity wait for her,
The aromas of love
Begging her to come;
But right now
She would rather spend her life
Eating crumbs.

I like the message and symbolism in this beautifully written poem. Sad that so many think it's better to enjoy life without God until they really need him.

This poem perfectly describes what we miss out on when we don't pursue Jesus and accept the love He wants to wrap us in. Very well done.

Brilliant piece of writing. I espcieally like the ending bringing forth the message of "what if is like without Jesus." Good job, God Bless you.
Andrea Willard 08/13/11
Beautifully written! If I am fearful I imagine myself 'in "the" boat' and then embraced by Him. Well done.

Polarizing is difficult because it has to be done well to engage the heart and the mind and keep us trapped with the 'appropriate pain' that we ought to feel. Your record of a woman's life is profound. I like this narrow focus that reoccurs in different variations in each described 'stage'.
