Lying on my bed, I could feel the encroaching heaviness that we all feel just before our conscious mind finally succumbs to sleep. I knew it would only be seconds before I was lost to this world and would enter the realm of the deep peaceful dreamworld that I had become so familiar with over the years. No more nightmares such as those I had experienced prior to coming to Christ; just sweet, blissful rest!

In this semi-conscious state something terrible and frightening entered, and the peace I expected was broken. Over my bed there appeared a shield that was midnight black and brought with it an eerie chill that enveloped everything! As I fixed my gaze on the shield it began to descend toward my face with a slow and deadly pace, and as it descended I began to feel my breath leaving my body and choking out my life. I knew that if I didn't wake up soon I would be dead. The knowledge of this impending death was more real than anything in my life at the moment, and I felt fear welling up within me. There was a very real war going on in my bedroom and it was a fight for my life!

Suddenly another vision appeared in a position that seemed to be behind my head. The second vision was a deep, dark cave, and from the cave began to emerge small letters that grew bigger and bigger as they moved forward in my dream. I saw that the letters spelled out JESUS in caps and the next thing I knew I was sitting up in bed trembling shouting out the name Jesus! My hands were shaking and I was suddenly wide awake, but the shield had vanished along with the horrible chill of death and I knew I was safe! The peace that came into my room was such a relief that I could only sit and take it in for a while! Oh, praise the Lord! I was safe! The battle was over for now.

I got up from my bed and slipped on my jeans. I went to the elders of the house and told them of my strange experience. As a brand new Christian I had never experienced spiritual warfare of any kind, and I needed someone who had been there to help me understand. The elders told me that I had just had a demonic attack on my life. They prayed over me and told me everything would be alright and that I should go back to bed and get some rest.

I returned to the room and took off my jeans, and as I prepared to lie down I noticed something very strange. My bed that had been deathly cold during my experience was warm, however, the person in the bed above me was tossing and turning in his sleep and that same deadly chill was around his bed. I had never experienced such a strange thing before as a room that was cold and warm at the same time, but I suddenly knew just what to do. I stood up and stretched out my hands over the bed of the young man that was tossing and turning and spoke these words; "In the name of Jesus I command every demon and devil to leave this house and stay out the rest of the night." Immediately the entire room became warm through and through and the dear brother who was tossing and turning ceased his restless activity and lay quiet and sound asleep! The battle was over and peace came to the house at last!

This is not fiction, but a story from my own life that actually happened at 518 Xanthus Street in Tulsa, Oklahoma in the early months of my salvation. I am still in the war and have had many battles since, but the peace of God forever rules in my life and has ruled for over 37 years.

What an experience to see that though you were being attacked God was never far from you as He undoubtably gave you the letters that spelled out the Name above all names. Thanks for sharing.

WOW, what an amazing, riveting story of spiritual warfare, one that will remain in my mind a long while! Praise God, in the name of Jesus, you won the battle and are still winning the battle! Excellent writing of an excellent testimony!! Thanks for sharing...fits the challenge to a T!

A chilling reminder that we are not in a war with flesh and blood. Thanks for sharing this...well done.

Scary stuff! I've still got goosebumps. Certainly fits the topic.

Thanks for sharing your victory in Christ. You've reminded me of how Smith Wigglesworth, a healing evangelist, was once woken by satan shaking his bed in a hotel room. Wigglesworth looked up and saw who it was and said: "Oh, it's only you!" Then and he rolled over and went back to sleep! Much easier for a seasoned campaigner like him than for a new Christian like you were. Thnak God there were people in your life who guided you through it instead of dismissing it as a figment of your imagination.
God has greater things in store for you yet!
