Now I know that was not what he meant at all. He was a bit of a stuffed shirt. Perhaps he was envious of my being able to translate myself back into a childish state when he could not.
I like to believe that my kids were lucky. Not that I was such a good dad, but that I could relate to them on a child-like level. I find myself doing the same thing with my grandkids.
I spend my days with the grandkids watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Phineas and Ferb, putting together puzzles, constructing marble race tracks, playing board games and reading picture books. I especially like having the two grandsons read to me.
Life in the slow lane with a book, or the fast lane on their bikes, it’s a wonderful roller coaster.
Life with children, in most cases, is what you make it. At least it is with me. Although money can be an issue – it’s more about how you see things. Recognizing the blessings that God sends our way and then taking the time to enjoy them.
I would not trade one day of my life with my children for more money or success or – insert your own dream here.
My family – my wife – my children – their children – all I can say is that being an adult spending time with a child on their level is quite the added blessing.
Kids – it truly is about outlook.
Maybe my kids are still lucky. I know that I am.
