Settled on a mountaintop,
I have my choice of views—
I gaze into the valley
And long to swap my shoes.

I see the people dressed in glitter
And all the city’s glitz;
I hunger for the cash I need
To live within their midst.

I’ve missed the outlook that surrounds me
Because my eyes are trapped,
The neon lights have blinded me
To blessings in my grasp!

But in the riches of Gomorrah
The fumes of lust are toxic,
And wary eyes can see the pain
They carry in their pockets—

Down there, they buy their happiness
To paint over their scars,
But here, magnificence surrounds me,
Outnumbering the stars!

A million views of beauty
Are mine to taste today,
If I embrace the life I’m given
And toss my lust away.

To find contentment in my lot
I only have to choose
To gaze around and count my blessings
And revel in the view.

I really liked this-- had that kind of "road less traveled" feel in the sense that it's common to many, but still true and profound (often in life we have a choice between two paths, do we go the common route or go down the one less trodden? often in life we have the opportunity to see the grass greener on the other side of the fence or we can revel in the blessings & views that surround us.)

good work :)

I enjoyed so much about this poem: the word choice, the excellent descriptions, the rhyme and rythm and the message. Very good.

Oh this is so beautiful and within just a short piece it gives us an important message. Your rhythm and meter was right on. Frequently we need to come away from the hustle and bustle of a demanding and materialistic world and spend time with the Lord. He refreshes us and shows us what is true and necessary. I choose-"the view." Amen! Well done!
