How long
Judas
did you look upon Him
with eyes
that blinked back betrayal

How long
had your hands
pilfered the moneybag
itched with avarice
before fisted
in anger
as expensive oil anointed Him

Were you ever truly
one of the twelve
or just a mirror image
reflecting
what He saw through

How long
did your sin stained feet
He washed
that night
faithlessly follow
the wrong path
to the kiss of death

How long
had your mask of lies
whitewashed the face
that allowed
thirty pieces of silver
to trump
His love, His grace

Did you ever really
sellout your soul
for the price of a slave
- like you did Him -
or was it always
lying
in wait
for the opportunity

You never saw
Oh Judas-Son of Perdition
that He shed His blood
for unfaith, greed, thievery, lies
betrayal - sins
like yours, like mine
like everyone
needing
forgiveness awaited
simply
for
believing
Jesus loves that much

This is so wonderful! I'm not usually a poem person but this flowed so effortlessly. I'm doing a huge happy, happy dance for you right now! Congratulations on a well deserved ribbon! I'm not sure how many ECs you have but how cool that we'll be in the same anthology! (I received my first and only EC in handout!)
