The other day
while sifting through
a dusty box, I found
a simple little packet
of lavender and brown
My unforeseen
discovery,
it dropped out at my feet
so I bent down to retrieve
this misplaced sachet sweet
Akin to hopes,
hues rich with lace
its colors, now so pale
elegance lost through the years
the odor now so stale
A valued gift
tucked deep away
of childhood memory
its purpose was to fragrance
wherever it would be
A floral scent
of days gone by
with note and ribbon blue
I read the washed out writing,
attached by dried out glue
“I may be small
but still have I
a heaven sent perfume
my purpose; to give beauty
to any drawer or room”
My inner self
like this sachet
had slowly, through the years
become a wasted vessel
infused by pain and fears
Withdrawn and numb
now was my state
detached in many ways
from Him, who gives us fragrance
and scents our very days
No longer was
my aroma
dispersing hope and love,
with remnants of the past
I cried to God above,
“These thoughts of mine
tucked deep inside
on loveliness once dwelled
infusing lives with hope
of hearts who had beheld
But pain and hurt
their avenues
through countless years I strode
slowly I became recoiled
away from your abode”
In worn out lace
and petals dried
I longed to be restored
By Him, who pervades our soul
The oil of joy He poured
Where wither was
and color gone
I was renewed that day
With the old suffused in Christ
I am a sweet sachet…
2 Cor 2:15- For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish.
Ephesians 5:2- And live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
Isaiah 61:3-To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.
